While many of us are staying comfortably under our own roofs, the 5000+ population of people experiencing homelessness in the Houston have limited resources and over populated shelters. This population is one of the most susceptible to COVID-19. They are twice as likely to be infected with corona virus with doubled mortality.
Here are the following items we include in the kits depending on availability:
water bottle~ $0.20 each x 2
bar of soap~ $0.10 each x 2
socks~ $0.60 each x 1
feminine hygiene products (pads)~ $0.18 each x 4
wipes~ $0.37 each x 1
canned food ~ $0.50-$1.00 each x 2
granola bars~ $0.20 each x 2
education pamphlet on how to take protective measures during this time
- Each kit averages approximately $3.69-$4.69
- The kits are assembled based on availability of items and donation funds.
- items are ordered in bulk and then distributed within each kit.
- Ideally each kit would include 1 water bottle, 2 soaps, 1 pair of socks, 4 feminine hygiene products, 1 pack of wipes, 2 canned food items, 2 granola bars, and one educational pamphlet.

During this time we are not taking volunteers to help create and distribute kits in efforts to maximize social distancing.
We are directly distributing hygiene kits through Harris Health Systems. Once the kits are assembled they are dropped off and distributed by the staff. You can visit them at https://www.harrishealth.org/services-hh/outreach/Pages/healthcare-homeless.aspx
